:eek5wavey:Could we please have a section dedicated to HT construction and tips. It would make life a lot easier because one would not have to chase all over the forum to find information on HT . Would you please consider it .:thanx:Alan

Looks like the video out on my current receiver is taking a crap :) So, it appears that I am unfortunately in need of a new receiver. Please help a receiver noob find a decent replacement.

Requirements;

  • Reasonable Price; $500 or less would be preferred as I don't use it for high performance theater, just general family entertainment.
  • 5.1 is sufficient, I don't need 7.1 as the room isn't very large
  • Audessey MultEQ would be preferred as it gives me the option of improved performance once I actually get some speakers in the room (spring hopefully).
  • Preamp outputs would also be preferred should I chose to run external amplification in the future
  • Reasonable power output; I know this isn't any receivers strong point, but I will likely be powering speakers from the receiver for the mid-term
  • Dimensions; I have about 17" W x 15" D to work with, so it can't be gigantic

That's all I can think of at the moment.

The rest of my components are pretty archaic; 15 year old VCR, satellite receiver, 7 year old DVD player, and a PS2 & Wii. So it needs to have sufficient "old school" RCA/component connections to handle all of my sources.

I have considered also upgrading to a Blu Ray at some point in the not so distant future. Are there any other players like this Denon that combine Blu Ray with the receiver that don't cost $2K? That would be an ideal solution, and I would expand my budget some to fit such a device.

Any other advise and recommendations would be appreciated!

I fucked up. Meant to edit, but instead replied :(

It certainly affects crossover design, but I'm not really sure I'm following your logic.

English is poor.....but I think the point he was getting at was that since the speaker's inductance swamps the cable's we should be concerned about the inductance of the speaker rather than the cable. The speaker's inductance is the primary enemy for high frequency rolloff.....

Not sure if that helps or not....this is a difficult conversation to follow :lildevil:

Goddammit, did it again :buttlick:

I'd like to hear why it is better to have a HT section than to have the Multi-chn Audio and Video & Display separate. So far the only reason that I find in the thread is that this then requires looking all over the place, but considering that these are very specific locations I feel the opposite. It should be easier for people to find what they are looking for as the sections are separate. When I want to build a projector/screen setup I won't care about reading about speakers when searching threads, and vice versa as the topic at hand would be my interest.

As I said before , HT is specialised gear , and so requires its own section .. It is not easy to go to all the locations to find info. I am not saying get rid of 2 channel audio etc . But where multichannel audio is , change the name to home theatre and that covers projectors , screens etc etc . Thanks Alan .

What I don't understand is how two sections is "harder" than one?

To me the Audio & the Video side are so different that having them separate even seems to make sense. I think that one or the other could get lost if it was stuck under HT. Also, what do you do with TV's? CPU Monitors? and other displays? I surely wouldn't see discussing using a 28" HannsG monitor as your main viewing screen in a HT section, but I bet a ton of college kids have exactly that.

Note, I am not trying to say you are wrong but really some description other than it is not easy (especially with only 2 locations) would really help. Make a case, we are open. :)

Gooday again . You need a sepperate section called Home Theatre .Audio and video are part of the HT forum , but are different when not involved with HT as such 2channel audio ,and 1 channel Audio , computer monitors, computor screens. A big plus for having HT togeather it attracts companies who wish to advertise under HT . Alan
