I picked up a pair of Tannoy i8s. Pulled these out of somewhere we did an install. Some cool little speakers. They are an 8" Coaxial style speaker. Kind of like an old Altec duplex design I guess.
They sound pretty good when paired with my sub. Only problem is that My receiver crosses the Tannoys too high when the sub output is on. I need an Integra remote to do some on screen changes with the receiver...
The cabinets are kind of an ugly color, but I am planning on pulling the grilles off and backing them with some grille cloth, and painting the cabinets black to match the grilles. Don't know if I should do a gloss or a flat? My TV stand is a gloss black. hmmm decisions decisions.
Anyways here's some pictures.

Brahma Ht Subwoofer?
29 August 2011 - 08:22 PM
So I have been playing around with the idea of building a HT subwoofer. I have my old Brahma sitting around that needs a recone. It's currently a 12" but I can get a 15" basket and recone kit from Fi for like 130-150 depending on what options I take.
I just brought home a QSC ISA280 amplifier to try out on the sealed 15" Alpine Type R (getting to that tonight, tomorrow or this weekend) It will be wired to 8 ohms for about 600 watts.
So what I was thinking though was to get the ISA280s bigger brother, the ISA450, and bridge it into a 4 ohm load for about 1400 watts! So since I was probably going to go with the 15" I was thinking sealed. Then I'd have a little better power handling (not that I'm worried about blowing it) and the fact that it'd be a little easier to design to build the enclosure. But then I got to thinking and I remembered that I have 2 15" Acoustic Elegance Passive Radiators and thought that could make for an interesting build.

I have talked about using these before but obviously never have. Anyone think these would pair nicely with the Brahma and power amp?
Another thing I was thinking too was that I could get a Crown CDi1000 for a little more money and that has built in DSP so if I need to do any low end EQing, that could be accomplished with the build in DSP and cover me in the future for when I get a set of mains that are worthy of their own amplifier.
Any more suggestions or comments, or even criticism would be great!
Thanks again.

Coax Cable Questions
29 August 2011 - 08:10 PM
So here's the deal, my parents house is in desperate need of having all the coax wire replaced. It is all old RG-59 and they have had issues with flickering and channels simply not working on their HD receiver. They had the cable company come in redo the feed to the main TV but they did a horseshit job at it. Cables hanginging everywhere, not tired up enough, enough slack to make jumpropes with etc. To make a long story short, I am just going to pull new RG-6 to their 4 TV locations and put a network drop at each one. I'll do the network drops with Cat6 that I can get through work, but my question is with the RG6.
I just need to know if I should use single, dual, or quad shielded cable, or how much I would benefit using a higher shield count. I know the connectors differ but that's about it. I want to do this once so would it make sense to do the quad shield and not have to upgrade in the future for higher bandwidth requirements?
Another question would be splitting the coax signal. Any suggestions for a 4 output splitter? All the cable runs should be relatively short(>50 ft.).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Todd

Back With Some Pictures.

Just moved into a new place and just got the initial install done with some upgrades coming.

Panasonic 54s1
Panasonic Dmp-bd65 Blu Ray
Integra Receiver
Xbox for Hulu and Netflix Streaming
Some old school Large Adent Speakers
Added some el cheapo Dayton speakers in the rear today. Need the hang them and possibly pull them though the wall too.
Need to pull new HDMIs through the wall . The 2 meter cables I had were way too short but I have some longer ones to pull this weekend. There's a closet directly behind that wall and we will probably put surge supressor and all power supplies on the other side of the wall to make it as clean as possible.

The seating area. Custom sectional!
Future plans are to add in a record player.
Some new fronts, sub, and a center channel.
