When it comes to Blu-ray I know nothing and I am currently looking to buy a Blu-ray player. What should I look for? What is important?

My budget is $300 and under.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Here is what I'd personally use:
Newegg.com - LITE-ON Black 4X BD-ROM 8X DVD-ROM 32X CD-ROM SATA Internal 4X Blu-ray Reader Model iHOS104-06 - Blu-Ray Drives

Or if you truly want to use your budget, perhaps recording would be nice
Newegg.com - LITE-ON Black 4X BD-R 2X BD-RE 12X DVD+R 4X BD-ROM SATA Internal Blu-ray Burner 4X Blu-ray Burner Model DH-4B1S-08 - Blu-Ray Burners

I've had stellar luck with LiteOn products.

<- pc is connected to my TV

So much cheaper and more flexible, but if your pc is nowhere near the TV it obviously won't work. Personally I am waiting for Bray burners to drop below $50, then I am in.

I have no experience with home machines

My pc is like 4 feet away from the tv. I never gave that a thought. Might be something to look into after the remodel.

Thanks for the idea.

Mine is more than 30' away, but the cable box is right next to it. Hidden wires ftw.

LOL at underr $50, but I agree that prices are way too high for electronics , and all other stuff for that matter. lets petition for lower prices!!

People LOL'd at my comment on DVD burners getting to that price, but they are now easy to find down there. Considering I have rented perhaps 10 total DVD's in my life, I am not in a hurry to get a Blu-ray. In less than two years I'll have one and the house is ready for it to slide right into my pc.
