Speaker Ohm Question

5 posts in this topic

I am looking at a pair of Martinlogan Motion 12 speakers and they are rated at 4 ohms and my receiver is (Onkyo tx-nr708 ) rated at 8 ohms. I called a Best Buy magnolia store and they told me they would not recommend them because the sound could cut in and out. Could I get some input from someone here. The Marinlogan site says that they will work with both but I don't want to spend the money and end up frying something.

If you search google with Onkyo tx-nr708 @ 4 ohm, you get a bunch of rated results. I think you'd be fine.

I can understand your concern, but there are others doing it without problems. If you should decide to try it, just make sure you learn how receiver will react so you don't push it too hard.

I agree . Just dont push your amp into clipping ,(overloading) for too long .

I think it would bust your eardrums before it clipped .So, Enjoy your system and dont worry as most good amps have an automatic overload protection built into them ........................Alan
