My gf had an old stereo set (turntable, cassette, cd, tuner) from the 80s or 90s that hasn't worked in quite a while. I'm no expert and have very little experience in home audio. I'll spare the gory details, but I fussed with it for about a couple of hours and could only get a hum from the system.

To the thrift store it went, but I kept the speakers. I did some research on them, apparently they're are from the 70s and not worth much, but they seem to be in good condition. My question is, can these speakers be adapted for use should we decide to get a new home audio system? The speaker connections are the kind that you shove a bare wire into a clip. I have a 78 rpm collection that I'm in the process of digitizing using a vintage 70s era Dual 1219 and a DAK setup. I like to listen to my 78s as I digitize them, so I'm wondering if I can hook it up to the Sansui speakers as well as my computer speakers. Thanks in advance for your help.

You could definitely use them. Get a cheap used receiver off craigslist and start from there.

Turns out to be a moot question. She doesn't want them in the house because of their size, and I can see her point, we'll be economizing space when I move into her place in a couple of months.
