Hey Guys, I have been trying to figure out how to put together a stereo for my garage, i have been doing a lot of researching but I'm just not getting very far so I figured I would ask the experts. I am planning on building something like this http://pjimmyaudio.weebly.com/ (I realize that thing is stupid over priced), I was planning on running car audio componets with a DC to AC converter, but I am thinking that would be a lot of unnecessary complication and probably wouldn't be very reliable. So now I am thinking of running a home stereo amp to power it instead, I am wanting to run an mp3 player so I wont need any kind of head unit or anything. I apologize in advance, I realize this is a really newb question, and has probably been covered a million times allready, but it's something I don't really understand and any help will be very appreciated. Thanks in advance

Thank you; I think I need to explain what I am asking better, I read though my question and didn't really get it myself. What I had in mind was four 6.5 speakers and a subwoofer, I don't know if thats overkill or not. I am planning on building the cab out of MDF, for an amp I was looking at this http://www.ebay.com/...=item4cf9a44a9a I don't know if that is a good amp or anything, and I honestly have no clue what I need for speakers, I was looking at them online and I don't know enough about it to know whats good and whats bad. So basicly
I guess I am asking for you guys to critique my setup.

First off, what are you going to be doing with this system? Just for listening or for parties or what? How much do you want to spend for everything including materials. Do you want this system to be easily portable?

Welcome too!

It's going to be in my garage which is pretty big it's a three bay garage that was used for working on semi trucks, it will mostly just be for listening but it is not uncommon at all for there to be 20 or more people there so it needs to be loud. I don't really know how much I'm looking to spend if i could keep it around $500-$600 that would be cool but money really isn't a problem. and portability isn't a big deal at all I figured I'd put it on casters so I could wheel it around the garage but i don't plan on moving it out once it's built.

Welcome to HAF.

I think this will be a cool build, something you do not see very often. You could do a nice 2 channel receiver and add a dvd player to play cds or dvds if you are adding a tv. For speakers look for in wall speaker like these http://www.parts-exp...tnumber=300-036 mmmmk
..
Then you could add a powered sub that is used in home theater http://www.parts-exp...tnumber=300-633 . All would be AC so no need for batteries. I used PE links for reference. If you have a Radio Shack local you may find the above wall speakers (their brand) being closed out for $8.95. I scored 3 at my local store.

I'm not planing on adding a tv just audio, $8.95 sounds awesome, are they pretty good speakers? I was looking at buying these http://www.ebay.com/...=item2eb8b6d135 I don't know if they are any good I would definately have to up my wattage with 8 speakers and I'm sure it would be kinda overkill, but i like overkill. The powered sub would be cool but can I take one of those out of it's enclosure so I can mount it in the cab that I will be building?

The Radio Shack speakers are decent, but the ones you have linked will work fine to. I was thinking you could cut a hole large enough fo the sub and screw the box fast to your panel and then attach the grill.
