I'm a home audio newb so please excuse the ignorance. I have surround sound in my family room that's powered by a Pioneer vsx-520 reciever. In several other rooms in my house, I have stereo ceiling speakers. Since the Pioneer only had surround or line level outputs, I had my stereo speakers running through an old Onkyo stereo receiver which had it's input fed by a RCA line out from the Pioneer. This worked great because I could control the stereo speakers separately from the sound in the family room, but alas the Onkyo receiver has decided to retire and now my wife is left to wander the house without her music.

Other than buying a new stereo receiver to power the stereo lines independently, is there a clever way to use the line level outputs of the Pioneer to hook up the stereo speakers? I really don't want to spend the money for another receiver if I can avoid it with some home audio kung fu.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Only an integrated amplifier or reciever will do the job for you. Or you can buy a reciever that has "zone 2" outputs. Usually this type of reciever uses the back surrounds as the speaker output for zone 2. The advantage to zone 2 outputs is that you can use the reciever in one room on the BR player, and you can have radio going through the rest of the house. IOW it lets you run 2 sources at once.

You'd probably be best off just buying a receiver. You can go on craigslist and find one real cheap. Maybe as cheap as 50 bucks. OR find a shop to repair your blown one..

If it was me Sir, I'd just but a separate reciever and be done with it ...
independent controls and independent sources ...
just my suggestion ...
