I would rather keep wires in the wall. I may lose clarity some but with my pups and stuff running around I don't want to grab a wire and pull the speaker off.

Todd i was thinking along the lines of electrical wiring code. Like you said i'm sure if i staple and make it look good and not all cluttered i shouldn't have a problem. I'm not sure how much of a pain the builder could be with me doing something they said I can't.

Well you could always hide them somehow. (Like running a channel on the bottom side of the couch) I'm wondering if any other method will look goofy.

Mount surround and side speakers on the the ceiling with u brackets and aim them towards the couch. Then they don't have to be awkwardly placed in the room and keep wire hidden. Those speakers are just for effects so the locations aren't as critical as the LCR speakers.

Just an idea.

This is what i'm thinking. I want to keep the speakers close to the walls. I think it will look quite odd with a speaker chilling out in the middle of the ceiling.

I'd imagine that'd work. Does your receiver have time alignment?

Haven't picked the reciever out yet.

Planned on going with a Pioneer Elite one though.

What speakers do yall recommend for the surround sound?

I still would love to build these for my Front L/R speakers - ZDT 3.5s

The second I saw those speakers, I have wanted to build a set. They would make for a killer set of mains! The guy who designed those did a damn good job. The FR is ruler flat. I say don't buy any speakers, build them.

I am sure some of Zaphs other speakers would be well suited for rears also. Maybe a little overkill for surrounds though.

The speakers are just plain sexy to me!

I would love to build some more of the zaph stuff for the surrounds but the foot print of most of them is a little to big. Not sure the wife would be real happy.

I have yet to show her my plans... :peepwall:

You're better off not telling her, and dealing with the consequences. :)

Here is the new house floorplan. Looking at doing a surround setup in the game room.
This house is already built so i will have to install all my own stuff.

What wall are you planning on using the display on? The wall with the stairs coming up would make it easy to hide wiring. Could possibly pull wiring for rears through the utility/storage area.

Looks like a pretty legit place. Any pictures?

ok sold some of my car audio equipment :(

Now its really time to step into the HT realm.

Doing a little research on pioneer recievers. They can take 6-16ohm loads.

For the ZDTs they need a solid amp that will take a 4 ohm load. John the designer said he had 120W on them.

Plan on running some dayton surround sound speakers that are 8 ohms.

So my question is should i look into getting a Pioneer Elite Reciever looking at the VSX-51 and then get a 2 channel amp that can handle a 4 ohm load for the ZDTs?

Is there a Paradigm dealer in your area? If so they are closing out all v6 speakers and some of them may be with in what you want to spend.

How much are they running?

I would really enjoy building my own though.

Just an idea.

Check ebay for a price point then go to a dealer and see what they may have, then it is time to barter.
