Of course it sort of depends on what you consider "control"

Interesting.... I think I'm going to do some deep reading on the options available for down the road.....
In conclusion for my instand needs then I think I will deal with local controll for now when it comes to anything A/V related. Now all I need is to find an A/V receiver for the living room, and decide if I move the HT speakers up and get new HT sound or buy new speaks for living room and bedroom.
I think I have 80% of my decision on how to handle the kitchen/outside zone settled.

Make sure that you get something with a normal open source control so that it is automatable in the future.
As a temporary solution running your current living room in a second/third zone for the kitchen could be fine.

Something just crossed my mind about my yammy, and it was one of the reasons why I purchased this device instead of some less feature rich and more robust pre pro system. It networks in amazing ways. I just found out that the z7 has the ability to be controlled by computer interface via it's network connection and I can controll all zones independantly via it's network capability. Also has a few other options that are pretty awesome with syncing multiple zones to play the same track timed properly for "party mode".
I hope it works with windows 7 and not just vista.

Add a Squeezebox or two to that and you will have a PC controllable solution that will do what you need. You'll just have to port all your inputs to the receiver.
I'd imagine that you can also use a remote. When pulling wires, I would pull a Cat6 along with it to use as a hardwired remote repeater.

Yup.
pretty soon I'll have several lines of cat 6 per room I bet. With a corporaite rack switch I can really just hard wire it all. =D

I would encourage you to really think to the future before you pull wire.
ie, it sucks enough the first time you don't want to do it 2x.
It will be a good option to see if it does "enough" or if you want to jump head first into other upgrades
