Time is the big stopper, obviously followed by money, but if I had the time I'd find the money.

I'm in the process of looking for a house. As soon as I get one (hopefully before the 1st of the year), I plan on doing a complete IN WALL system. Got most of the drivers, but its going to be alot of work (fun too).

Sean . You just have to find the time mate.
I promise you that if you find the time and are sitting down watching a movie on your HT , you will say "I should have done this years ago " .
It can be done on the cheap money wise but not not lack quality.................................Alan

Good on you mate . You are in for a funtastic time.
One trouble, once the systym is running, if you are like me, you will spend all your spare time watching DVDs and put off the finishing touches for much later on .
If we can help you please ask ............................Alan

That would mean Sean would have to quit working so damn much. :)

I will be happy once I get my 2.1 back up and running.

Yep, hard when you travel more than 50% of the time and have a ton of other home projects and of course a 13mo old son.

5.1 in a small HT & 7.1 in a large .
I had a 14 x18 room and 7.1 was a bit much but nice .
Put it this way., most receivers are 7.1 and what is another 2 bipolar speakers going to do to the budget , Bugger all.
Go 7.1 and you will never say "i wonder what 7.1 would sound like ....................................Alan

Where can I find a layout/description of a 7.1 system. My speakers will be "In Wall" but how high do you think they need to be. Also, Thought about installing the sub drivers in the ceiling downfiring tuned around 20 - 24 htz. What do you guys think ???

Please read Aarons brilliant articles on surround
The speakers except sub should be at the height off your ears whilst sitting down . Subs in ceilings are a no no as you will never get rid of the rattles in the ceiling . The best place is in a corner and have the cut off set at 80 Htz .
Have 2 dipolar surround in the wall opposite your ears whilst sitting , have the other dipoles about 7ft high on back wall equally spaced .All of this is not critical at all . ...................................Alan.

Thanks, Yes I have been reading as many as I can find. Very Informative !!! Most of my stuff was installed to customer / contractor specs. I want mine as textbook as possible. Thanks again for the help. No go on the Sub idea, I see your reason and I agree.

If you want it textbook, you'll have to start with a textbook room. Otherwise it will be a compromise.

What do you mean you are looking for a perfect room???????
For the start the room dimension should be say 1 to 1 1/2 .
eg 14' x 21,' or 13' x 19'6'' etc L.W.H, should not be multiples of themselves ,such 12 x 24 .
the ceiling height , as high as possible .
there should be no //L surfaces .
I can rave on all day about acoustics , but , I would send you to sleepB)
Remember nothing is critical at all.................................Alan

Nothing about electronics boars me. I can read up all day long. Guess that's what makes me a decent Cable Guy. Always Learning Something about the communications world.
