A gun should always be #1 on your list in this situation. Followed by #2 Water and #3 Food.

The reason #1 is a gun is because #2 and #3 can be taken away from you if you don't have #1....

I built a kit at home in the states with 30 days of water and food (for entire family) including misc. sundries and an AK-47 w/1000 rounds of ammo and a .357 double action revolver w/250 rounds of ammo, all vacume sealed and ready to go.

:P  :biggun:

We would only have a month of food without refridgeration/freezer. Thank god I can smoke the 20+ pounds of meat in the egg. No generator though.

As for the rest we have....

1 AR 10 (think m16 only much more powerfull round). I'm low only ~50 rounds

1 AK 47 ~400 rounds

1 7mm mag bolt action ~15 rounds

3 1911 ~100 rounds

1 xDM 9mm ~200 rounds

1 folding stock pump winchester ~200 rounds. To be fair though ~30 of those are buck with an extra 3 balls that can't be loaded through the tube and have to be single fed.

I am in the market for a .50BMG rifle and a .500 revolver now... Also another shotty and AK or AR.

And the best defence, 200 pound man best friend.

I can not understand why people over there have a gun let alone an arsenal . None of our children get shot over here as we banned firearms in Australia for the sake of our kids . No offence intended . That is the way we work over here . Such as the hospitals were horrified at the amount of kids ,and adults getting terribly burnt and sometimes blinded by fireworks . So we banned the sale of fireworks .As a result no more burnt children . What I an saying Australians are super protective of children and very proud to be so . We are not scared of firearms . As you know , we are the first to help America in a war ..........................Alan

I do keep some fuel around too.

I've been thinking about making a steam geny just for the heck of it too. Enough to run tools like a welder etc.

I had been thinking of a steam generator also .The problem is
what to run it on . If it is hardwood and you want
5 HP that is 5x720 = 3600watts that works out to be approx 1/4 ton of dry hardwood / hour .
With an efficient 3 phase alternator to get those watts about 1 1/2 litre petrol (gas) /hour
It is easier to feed a generator with petrol than to constantly attend a steam boiler that is feeding a turbine....................Alan
But , wood scraps to feed a boiler are usually available any where ,where as petrol may not.

Wood isn't the only thing you can power a steam geny with. Anything that will burn will work. Pretty simple to make it run on oil, used or otherwise etc.

I just like the versatility idea of steam. Gas fuel is much easier to deal with though you're correct.

No offence taken, but fireworks and guns do not hurt people. Neither do baseball bats or switch blades. All of these things are tools. Ensuring that no one can have them merely ensures that if a time came where you did need a firearm to protect yourself or to hunt you wouldn't know what to do.

The flipside of the arguement might be if you educated children they would know the danger and the ethics. It's a completely different dynamic however in almost every country other than the US. Our nation felt so strongly about the individuals right to have guns that it's part of our founding priciples and beleifs. Look at the swiss. Aside from making good coco, they have low gun crime yet almost every male has a service weapon through their most volitile stage.

It's about education, not control. Also Fireworks are dangerous. More than any gun. You can buy just mountains of the stuff and it's all basically explosives.
