Rack Style Subwoofer Amp

4 posts in this topic

I'm going to tackle my first custom home subwoofer build soon. My wife doesn't want another "box" sitting in the living room, so I'm going to build the box to fit into my existing entertainment center cubby. The cubby that it will fit in does not have good air circulation, so I don't want an amp built into the back of the box. Instead, I need a rack style amp. I haven't been able to find much selection, though. I'm looking for roughly 500 watts into 4 ohms and it must be under $700. Does anyone have any suggestions? Maybe an on-line store I can browse for specs and options?

Or just get one of the Dayton 1000 watt rack mount sub amps from Parts Express. They are around $400, have crossovers and parametric Eqs. They will put out well over 500 watts @ 4 ohms and are much better suited for your application than a pro amp.

They don't have a fan, either.... :woot:

No fan is huge if it is in the room you'll be listening to it in. The Dayton's are a hell of a buy.
