Our local community center needed a sound system for one of thier rooms so I decided to do a little community service.

The room is rather large, maybe 20' x 40'.

I went with a sub/sat system consisting of the following-

Sub- Parts Express buyout Eminence 12" DVC subs. 4th order bandpass to get the most efficency and mechanical handling out of these $25 woofers. 80Hz 6db/oct LP filter and 100Hz 18db/oct HP filter output for the satellites.

Satellites- Parts Express 6.5" woofers and 1.25" silk domes. Standard 4th order vented. 2nd order filters with L-pad and zobel.

The sub won't get any sort of finish, it will sit on the floor under a small stage. It is on it's side in the picture, it will lay flat when installed, you can se the rubber feet. It has a removable baffle with a foam seal to keep out any air leaks.

The sattelites will go to the paint shop to be primed and painted matte white. They will have white cloth grills over MDF frames.

Total price for all the parts, not including the wood, was $193 including shipping (with my wholesale discount).

Nice build, I like that you made your own crossovers.

The subs -3db points are 30Hz to 80Hz. I think the vented chanber is tuned around 55Hz. It has about 1.5db gain over a standard ported alignment, without the need of a HP filter for protection.

It will be powered by a 400 wpc pro audio amp, probably a Behringer or something similar.

I'll post some more pictures after I get the crossovers finished and then the sattelites painted and complete.

I finished the sub tonight. All I have to do now is finish the sattelites. The crossovers are all done and wired, I just am waiting on paint.

In what orientation will the sub be positioned? Will it be like in the pic on its side or standing up port down ? n/mI reread the original post and saw feet.

Yep, like the last picture.

It is shaped that way to fit under a stage. There is only about 17" of clearance under there, so that is why it is so long and wide. Took me a while to figure the dimensions in a way that the drivers would have enough mounting depth and the port would fit OK and have enough surface area. I think it has about 75in2 of vent area, should be fine for a pair of 12s with 8mm of xmax....

I am just waiting on the satellites... Hopefully not much longer. I should be able to get the parts installed in one night once they are done. I plan on having them all done by next weekend.

May I ask why you chose to do a side fire port? I ask as I have never built for an application like this.

I think this is awesome.

Someone could replicate this for a verry cost effective audio project for their home for a low price HT or whole house audio. For the price and the ability to custom color it would smoke the pants off anything in the price range. Awesome work and thanks for sharing it.

I finished the satellites tonight, I will install them Wednesday.

I ended up spraying them with 2 coats of Dupont sandable primer and 2 coats of a hard, slow drying semi-gloss enamel.

I installed the sub on Saturday. I had them purchase a Crown 600 wpc XLS series amp, it will work fine for this system.

I'll take pictures of the completed system and post them next week.

Fired everything up last night. I am very pleased with the sound. The sub is surprisingly powerfull. 4th order Band Pass was a good gamble, it really hammers out the lows. The Satellites get surprising loud also, I know I have plenty of power on tap, but I was still surprised.

I really can't belive I have a pair of $25 12" subs in there. Seriously, it sounds like a set of PA subs, really good impact and lots of output. I couldn't be happier.

I'll post some pics soon, I still have to tidy up the install.
